Project Pond

the pond project

Another colossal project. It should be noted these
railway sleepers are 8 foot long, 10 inches wide,
5 inches thick, and are actually, bloody heavy.
I moved most of these on my own, others ably assisted
by the owner, who fought them with me, as at the very end
they were super dense ones. Similar to me by that stage.

The aim is to produce a pond, putting the earth
behind a wall of sleepers, pierced by a hole through
which is run a cascade of waterfalls, driven by two large pumps.
that is currently awaiting the mechanical jcb as even I cant
dig through an ex cattle run made up of aged layers of bricks
which conveniently is under ALL of the proposed pond area.

initial day, bloody cold, but nice and bright.
I had pancreas pain, not good.

the infamous heavy sleepers. I grew to hate these.

initial trench dug out and filled with
concrete and aggregate mix using mechanical mixer.

waterfall went in very well, a plus in a tough time,
round about the time I could have thrown myself
at the floor and missed.

painfully slow progress due to the sheer weight
of the sleepers, also discover pond is over
a brick two course cattle grid after digging out first foot
of a forty by twenty foot pond by hand.
I remember being a little bit annoyed at this point.

sleepers now moving steadily upwards, thankfully.

pictures of idiots let loose on site to make me look
intense, brilliant and suave in comparison.

great shot of me, no face visible.

the story so far, also me in background,
facing mecca, praying, throwing salt
over my shoulder and inspecting clover
for a bit of help on a hard day.
This will look great but its been very hard
collar so far. Will be my last big task.
I recall saying that four marathon tasks back,
but my hip is becoming prohibitive,
and the heartbeat is poorer still.

AUGUST UPDATE

The story mid term. August 4th sees pond in abeyance for the present
Views partially obscured by large triffids and slightly smaller weeds.

October sees weeds cleared by Mark, sterling Stuff.
Probable completion this year.
