Names lifelong tags.
It is my contention that the name that you are
given at birth gradually shapes you to that
name, and to its pre conceived meaning known
to all our subconscious minds.
I believe that in many given instances, we live up
to our given name, and are heavily influenced
by what that name is, what it is generally
perceived to be, and whether it is a standard name
a frivolous name, a bespoke name to a certain era,
or a name steeped in historys pages.
I believe that other people expect you to
be a certain type of person according to what
you are called, and that general preconception
gradually moulds you into what everyone
perceives that name to mean.
If this is in any part right, then this must be the first
and foremost consideration of new parents, to
think anew of how much responsibility they
bear towards their offspring when debating
what they should be called for the rest of their
life.
this gives a true insight into the boy called sue
syndrome, as I am trying to take it further,
and put down on paper what I believe my
perceptions to be, based on what springs to
my mind instantly when triggered by a name.
I am going to try and work my way through a
names book and put flesh onto the bones
of the names that I feel that I can discern as
having this distinct meaning to them for me.
perhaps you can think of people you
consider that you know very well, and
then compare some of them with my perception
of the self same names.
this will take a long time to do,
so bear with me on this.
ALAN dodgy name this. Always seems to me almost above suspicion
and generally dresses well and acts suave, but I find
Alans to be a little shifty.
JOHN As the word says, honest John, but I find Johns tend to play
on this attribute, and sometimes try to pull a bit of a fast one.
GEORGE Seemingly a name to trust, also I find Georges usually are quite
interesting and clever people, in a sort of laid back style of way.
TOM I have a great friend called Tom, but seem to usually associate Tom with a little
over cleverness bordering on deception, like to be seen as lively
and interesting, especially if preferred to be called Tommy.
BRIAN Dont think I have ever met anyone called Brian who wasnt honest as
the day is long, and generally quiet but thoughtful and shrewd.
MALCOLM Generally I find Malcolms to be OK on the surface but with this hidden
agenda. Basically honest but a bit of chancer thrown in there.
TREVOR I think of Trevor as bit of a devious name, something going on you cant
quite put your finger on.
